i bought a used laptop "as is" on ebay 3 weeks ago, and it just fried. it smells like wires burning. it wont power up. since it was an "as is" sale, there is no way i can get my money back, is there?

I think you are out of luck. If you brough it at "As Is" thn the seller put some disclaimer on the listing that he/she is not responsible for blah blah blah. Which is why you should never buy "As Is" unless you know how to fix those kind of items.
